The above photo was taken in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy, when power outages swept across Lower Manhattan. A new UN report points out Goldman Sachs’ headquarters was protected by its own sandbags and power from its generator while the hurricane stranded “low-income and vulnerable New Yorkers without access to power and healthcare.”
The UN’s report warns of a climate apartheid, where rich people can pay to protect themselves while poor people suffer the impacts of climate change.
“An overreliance on the private sector could lead to a climate apartheid scenario in which the wealthy pay to escape overheating, hunger, and conflict, while the rest of the world is left to suffer,” the report says.

Bank of America says it will help low- and moderate-income people in the U.S. become homeowners by extending $5 billion in mortgages.
The five-year program also includes grants for down payments and closing costs and mortgage packages with small down payments.
The announcement is the latest by a big U.S. bank aimed at helping underserved communities. Last month, J.P. Morgan Chase said it was pledging $350 million for job training programs.
For Bank of America, the mortgage program is a reminder of its recent past. Thanks mostly to its purchase of Countrywide Financial during the 2008 crisis, the bank had more than $70 billion in regulatory settlements tied to improper mortgage and foreclosure activities.

Every few thousand followers I am going to make a post introducing myself for the newcomers! I cannot thank you guys enough for hitting 10k.
Here’s 5 random facts about me, including 1 thing that I find challenging:
1) I run a wealth management practice (if you haven't heard, I'm hiring again! My assistant and associate have both been promoted within my practice to different roles). If you have any questions about what wealth management entails (personal or your corporation) please send me a DM.
2) I'm involved with and teach seminars at the University of Alberta. I leave for Central America shortly to embark on my second mission trip for oral health initiatives, which I will be posting details about soon. I volunteer with new immigrant women in the city to teach them financial basics. I also teach financial literacy classes to junior high and high school students. I strongly believe in being involved in your community.
3) I am a social capitalist. I grew up in a low-income family; raised by a single mother in a relatively small, Caucasian-majority city. I come from a Muslim family but have my own views on institutionalized religion. I very rarely fit the box of stereotypes that exist based on what I look like, but I’ve learned to embrace not fitting in.
4) I suffer from IBS and am slowly learning what foods work best for me. I’ve always loved cooking and more recently, over the past 5 months, I’ve maintained a plant-based lifestyle and plan to document the incredible foods I continue to discover.
5) My biggest passions are constant growth and improvement – if I’m not getting everything I can out of life, I get antsy. I haven’t decided if that’s a good thing yet. The other is forming connections —It’s the #1 reason I travel.
A challenge that keeps me up at night: social activism. More specifically, wanting to make a difference. I’m humbled by the realization that the world I envision may not exist in my lifetime but to keep fighting for it anyways. My ultimate goal as I drum out words on the internet —For someone to come to my page, connect with something, and leave feeling uplifted. Or atleast, not alone.
Based on a report published by the WorldBank, the new threshold for classification by income based on GNI (Gross National Income) / Capita (USD) are:
.
<1,005 : Low-Income;
1,006-3,955 : Lower-Middle Income;
3,956- 12,235 : Upper-Middle Income;
>12,235 : High-Income
.
.
However, even though Credit Suisse Global #Wealth Databook 2018 refers the classification of income class according to the World Bank data, the organization used #GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per adult (in USD) to project net worth per adult.

Tonight I decided that rather than putting my pay from the weekend into savings that I would just pay of the rest of my car loan!
-
$292.67 paid tonight and I can’t fricken believe it’s gone..
-
I kinda feel like I’m debt free now because I only have an interest free bond loan left which I will just chip away at slowly paying the minimum.
-
This doesn’t even feel real. I don’t think it will until I start seeing the extra money in my budget from not having to pay this! Happy daysssss!!

Richard Jenkins perseverance is an example to us all.
A total of 39,506 people applied for a spot in Harvard University's undergraduate class of 2021, and just 2,037 were accepted — that's an acceptance rate of roughly 5.2 percent. Zero students were accepted off the waitlist.
Now, imagine earning one of those coveted spots after spending your early years moving between homeless shelters, a hospital bed and motel rooms. That's what Richard Jenkins was doing when, in grade school, he became so committed to academics that he went on to become the valedictorian of his high school and earn a spot at Harvard.
Type YES if you admire Richard's strengths. Tag your friends who may need a bit of encouragement.

When people ask me if I planned on having my daughter at 19 years old, I usually laugh. I don’t know too many people that would purposely have a child at 19 years old while still in college, living in the projects with mommy and never had a job. Nonetheless, having a child forced me to get a job at @starbucks 3 days after she was born. And I still had to balance that with being in college. If it wasn’t for great support from family, life would have been a lot more difficult. More than just a happy Father’s Day, I want to encourage all the fathers out there to keep strong. We need to be good examples, teachers, good listeners and protectors of our kids. They’ll become adults and may follow your lead. Let’s keep it going. By the way, that bag is full of food from the WIC program. •
