On the night between 15th and 16th of January 1945 managed the two saboteurs Roy Nilsen and Max Manus to place nine limpet mines on D/S Donau. The D/S Donau had been used by the Germans to deport Jews to Germany, and later in the war troops that were munch needed for the fighting on the continent.
Max Manus fell in the ice cold water several times when manoeuvring the small dinghy across the frozen waters under the Oslo harbour. Unexpected a German patrol vessel showed up and a German guard climbed down on a small ledge and scouted into the dim light. But they weren't noticed and could carry on. The next day D/S Donau departed later then scheduled, resulting in that the limpets went off when Donau was at shallow waters. It didn't sink completely but were out of action for the rest of the war. Nilsen was later killed in a fire fight, when the Germans had a extensive operation against men and women involved in sabotage against German ships.
