⚫️ Medicine Ball

WHAT:
~ These are examples of ballistic movements utilizing @sklz reactive 8lbs medicine ball.
•
HOW:
~ If used as part of the plyometric, power, or potentiation block: perform each movement with precision and the intention to move the med. ball as fast , far, and explosive as possible. Keep reps between 6-8. Rest at least 60 seconds between sets. Perform 1-3 movements in series or short circuit. Emphasis on quality over quantity.
~ ⏱ If used as conditioning / finisher: perform the movements as quick as possible while maintaining good form. Repetitions may be higher than 10 or for time. Minimal to no rest between movements. Emphasis on quickness and volume.

WHY:
~ Increase power output by improving the rate of force development (RFD) qualities, through full a range of motion, and by moving a light weight implement very fast.
~ Improve kinetic linking / coordination of force production and transfer from proximal to distal segments.
~ Movement variability as the med. ball can be thrown / tossed from different directions and starting positions.
~ Fun to throw a med. ball as fast and hard as you can!

Try these out
Rotational Reverse Lunge Throws - Step back and rotate towards the knee that is stepping back. Brace the core and drive through the front foot as you throw the med ball into the wall.
Knee Drive Side Toss - start with the knee closest to the wall up then step towards the wall as you throw the med ball.
Hip Lift Chest Pass - Keep the group squeezed and hips up as you explode through the chest throwing the med ball straight into the air.
Split Jump Side Toss - start in a launch dance with the knee closest to the wall up. Then jump switching your feet landing in an iso lunge hold then throw the med ball at the wall. Make sure the knee closest to the wall is up and the hand throwing closest to the wall is down.
Ab Crunch Throw - keep your knees at 90° and feet flat on the wall. Keep the shoulder blades up and core braced as you throw the med ball towards the wall.
ISO Squat Chest Pass - brace your core and hold a squat position as you explode through the chest throwing the medball towards the wall.
Overhead Tricep Extension- Brace your core and hinge forward with the med ball behind your head. Throw towards the wall extending your elbow flexing the tricep as fast as you can.

2. JUMPING MED BALL SLAMS
This is great at the end of any workout just as a form of cardio and conditioning. Make sure you drop down with the same leg you jumped with on the first exercise.
Also really slam the medicine ball when jumping to increase full body power!

Perform each round for 3 minutes of work with 1 minute of rest between rounds:
ROUND 1: Med Ball Alternating 1-Arm Wall Strikes
ROUND 2: Jump Rope (10 secs easy/10 secs fast x 9)
ROUND 3: Agility Ladder Footwork
ROUND 4: Shadow Boxing (30 secs banded/30 secs no band x 3)
ROUND 5: Heavy Bag (mix between speed & power)
This takes 20 minutes to complete. Repeat Rounds 1-5 for a longer 40-minute workout. Or pick any single round as a 3-minute starter or finisher to your next workout.
