Right, where were we? Coinciding with the Art & Olfaction weekend in Amsterdam, at the #AOAwards2019, I met a man in a big hat and he invited me to his party. This turned out to be Alessandro Gualtieri, and it was at his new studio, three units on a canalside light industrial estate, labelled SNOT, to smell Megamare, launched a few days ago for his Orto Paresi collection. The submarine cocktail we were handed appeared to be 99% vodka, 1% seaweed. One at a time we were invited into a totally blacked out room, with noises of the deep ocean (and what sounded like the kraken awaking), and fog-like fragrance floating from this lamp. As we left, we were handed a square envelope which we opened to find a printed white cotton handkerchief not just scented, but exploding with Megamare fragrance.  Coming back to our hotel room 24 hours later we can smell it from down the corridor. It's not so much an ambient aroma as an olfactory assault. (I fear it might set off airport security on the way home.)
