Hello, this is @leah_mycelia taking over this week for @UNBiodiversity! I'm happy to be able to share my love of fungi with you. This species, Favolaschia calocera, is also known as the "orange pore fungus", for its honeycombed underside. I found these lovely little specimens in Hawaii. I had seen photos of them from other places and squealed with delight to encounter them in person. Unfortunately, the fungus is not native to Hawaii, nor to several of the other places that it has now spread. It's an aggressive colonizer of dead wood and there is concern that in some places it's displacing native species. It is presumed that the fungus originally spread from Madagascar when shipping timber. In spite of this, it was beautiful to see. There are often mixed emotions when considering the myriad ways that humans have directly or indirectly contributed to changes in the environment. This cool beads-Scopulariopsis spp. A large genus comprising mainly soil species which are frequently isolated from food, paper and other materials. They also occur as laboratory contaminants. Several species may be involved in human onychomycoses or pulmonary mycoses, and have been associated with invasive human infections. This culture was isolated from the cat ulcer.

Finally the snow in Wisconsin is melting and it looks like spring might be on the horizon. Even in the winter in urban areas, the trees are full of tiny treasures. This lichen seems to be very common, I believe it's Physcia stellaris.
