POURING STATION Shout out to one of the very first posts I ever shared on IG I’m currently in Austin, Texas at the #mom2summit - an actual real blogging conference When I shared this photo almost four years ago, I never could have dreamed up the path my life was about to take ✨ I’m meeting hundreds of bloggers this week, and whenever they ask about how or when Busy Toddler started, this is the photo I see in my head ❤️ A little 25 month old Sam pouring colored water from various containers on my patio in an under the bed storage tub that I thought might be a good way to contain messes If you look closely, you’ll see some of the containers are GLASS but that’s just a testament to how gentle and calm Toddler Sam was ask me if I’d use glass containers with Matt or Kate This activity is simple, it’s easy, and it is a game changer - there’s something so mesmerizing for kids about simply pouring water Every now and then, I go back and “reset” the bin - which means I pick up the giant tub and pour all the water back into the biggest containers so we can start over We do this activity with Matt all the time now, but even at age 5.5, Sam will still sit down at the pouring station and go to work with his brother or on his own ❤️ This activity is just everything ps: Thank you for being on this Busy Toddler journey with me
On Friday we received an Iris Award for Instagram of the Year at the @mom2summit conference. This is significant to us because A) our blogging heroes have been part of this community since it’s start, B) recipients of Iris Awards are nominated & voted on by their peers in the industry & C) WE. FEEL. SEEN. Our goal has never been to compete for space with folks who strive for aesthetically pristine feeds or for fame or numbers. It’s never been our goal to compete, for that matter. More to show up as queer parents. As foster parents. As white adoptive parents raising kids of color. To offer a window into our world for folks who don’t identify with any of those intersections & to find community & camaraderie with folks who do. Last week was magic & I’m so grateful to know so many people, women, who show up for each other. Who dance & laugh & break barriers & work hard. Who evolve, raise kind & nurturing kids & who change lives. To be members of a community we admired from afar, back when blog rolls were all the rage, feels like a coming. Something full circle. We started this journey to connect with each other, as partners & new moms. We never could have imagined connecting with & valuing so many of you. You are our extended village as we find our way. Radio waves in the distance sending us good vibrations in thought & support as we grow into parenthood, push forward to raise our precious babies & build a life. Thank you. #mom2summit #kiafamily @kiamotorsusa
Happy Sunday!!! I am literally thanking God for all of the blessings right now! We have ONE more #fostertoadopt class and then our home study! We are hopefully adding on a toy room to our house, and I am working with an amazing brand over the next 6 months for the biggest partnership to date for the Ashmores Blog! I also have to say I’m so thankful for some amazing new friendships! You girls know who you are What is something you’re grateful for today Swipe to see some more photos from the @mom2summit #mom2summit
Speaking is my favorite thing to do professionally and gift giving is my love language, so when I get to do the two things at the same time, it’s my favorite. I’m speaking at #mom2summit on affiliates tomorrow (Thursday) and I asked my favorite partners if they would want to contribute to swag bags for the session. They said yes! I then asked @jenhatmaker if I could have them sent to her house because the hotel had astronomical fees for receiving boxes (4 boxes was $130!). She said yes, though we had no idea how many actual boxes it would be. Turns out it was a lot. Thankfully she has a big vehicle! Then @aliedwards @realfoodwholelife and @katiejaeger helped me stuff all the gifts from @bookofthemonth @stitchfix @dayspringcards @grovecollaborative @revellbooks @waterbrookmultnomah. I love my job and I love my friends. I’m just the luckiest.
If you are at Mom 2.0, be one of the first 100 people to my session and you’ll get a bag! If you aren’t at Mom 2.0, leave a comment and I’ll pick a name this weekend to send a bag to. (See my stories for all the goodies.)
Strength lies in Differences and Not in Similarities- Dr Seuss . And by leveraging diversity in race, culture or world view, marketers are able to build an inherent competitive advantage. Thanks to @mom2summit for having me represent and share my views & opinions on the topic, along with sharing strategies and insights on tapping into one’s multicultural influence. I am so thankful to everyone who attended my talk yesterday at #mom2summit and tagged me and shared their love for it. You are all amazing and such #bossbabes . Let’s keep building on this conversation and find our voice or influence in advancing diversity More details on my talk on my hilights.
The handsome @designerdaddy obliged me with posing for some Prom-style pics before the #IrisAwards tonight, and then he promptly WON for Best Sponsored Content! I must be good luck. ☘️ #mom2summit I’m also kind of obsessed with my skirt from @eshakti. #ItHasPockets #whatiwore #fashion #tallgirlfashion #tallfashion
