Days 8 & 9: Summersville, WV | Mountain Lake Campground, Site 438 . Wild & Wonderful West Virginia! So gorgeous here. We were a little unlucky with weather the 2nd day but got to enjoy an amazing sunset atop our hill overlooking the lake the first day. We were originally on a site directly lakefront but this family needs shade so we moved up on the hill which still had gorgeous views. Had the place pretty much to ourselves the first day. The camp will be completely full just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the kickoff to camping season. The huge lake is stunning. I highly recommend boating or kayaking around the lake if you can. Lots of beautiful cliffs, caves, coves, waterfalls and blue-green water that was very clear. . My Dad also joined us as he was born in WV. He was checking out ancestors grave plots and talking to the old folks who knew of his grandfather. His great grandfather (my great-great grandfather) fought for the Union in the civil war. We checked out Hawks Nest—a beautiful lookout point and stopped by my grandparents gravesite on the way out in Charleston, WV to pay our respects. . Pros of campground: •Huge camp around beautiful Summersville Lake •Very Natural, lots of vegetation •Fun activities: boating, swimming in lake, kayaking, etc Cons: •No extra frills like internet. You come for the nature and to unplug. •No full hookups and 30amp mostly •All gravel everywhere. Gets muddy when rainy. •Huge camp, impossible to get around without car or golf cart •No vegetation/shade around lower lakeside sites. . . . #rvlife #firsttimervers #camping #glamping #summersville #westvirginia #mountainlakecampground
