A misconception of a stoic person is someone who is cold or indifferent to emotional experiences. But truly, a stoic person is someone who is selective about which experiences that they think deserve emotional expression. You have a finite amount of energy and time in a day, you choose how to spend it. You don’t have to linger on troubling thoughts that serve no real purpose than to worry you. You don’t have to take personal offense to the rudeness or ignorance of others, as responding only serves them and steals from you.

Can you relate?
To be completely honest, my cleaning is a bit all over the place but here are some things that have helped me:
1. Write a list on paper breaking down the task “clean room” into mini steps. (Ex: put all paper in 1 folder, bring dishes to sink but do not do them lol, put away clean clothes, etc.). Then choose one that feels like a manageable place to start and begin! If that’s all you do that day, that’s awesome. Take the pressure off to tackle everything at once.
2. Set timers! Sometimes I like setting timers to create a sense of urgency and to get some momentum. Especially since starting is often the hardest part.
3. Use a time lapse video. If you’re distracted on your phone while cleaning, set up a time lapse video so you can record your progress and have the added benefit of not being able to use your phone or it will mess up the video.
4. Ask for help. Sometimes simply having someone sit in the room with you (body doubling) makes all the difference.
5. Lastly, as hard as it is, try to keep up with it through small things each day. I try to follow the rule that if it’s going to take less than 1 minute, I have to do it then and not procrastinate. So take that extra 22 seconds to hang up your clothes at the end of the day. Easier said than done, I knowwww.
Alright, there ya have it! A few things that have helped me coupled with some humor because realistically, my cleaning skills are always going to be a little all over the place.
Love always, Jak
From childhood on, I grew up feeling deeply and irreparably flawed and unlovable. I’ve experienced far more than my fair share of adversity in life and I could never understand why. Last month, the great mystery of my life was finally solved: I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I cannot begin to describe my relief from the suffering and confusion I’ve endured when I began to learn about autistic traits in women.
For those unaware, Asperger’s syndrome was renamed under the umbrella diagnosis of the autism spectrum disorder. Because autism is 3x more common in boys, the diagnostic criteria is more focused on the way their traits present. Autistic females who are highly intelligent and more adept at mimicking social behavior often fly under the radar and may not get a correct diagnosis until adulthood, like me.
Since my diagnosis I have reexamined my memories with this new information and it’s been so illuminating. It really is like finding the missing piece to the puzzle. With it, the narrative of my life finally makes sense. I’m not defective, my brain is just wired differently. I’m neurodiverse.
Now that I know who I am, I can understand and communicate my needs better. I can be proud now of everything I’ve had to overcome and be content with where I am in life.
I made this infographic and I’m sharing my experience because I want to bring awareness to this issue. Research has shown there is bias in the way autism is diagnosed in girls. Girls without intellectual disability often go undetected; they receive incorrect diagnoses or none at all. They have been suffering in silence, just like I was. Please feel free to share this infographic.

Accidental fuchsia! I meant for it to just be in my roots and keep the rest coral but the dye had its own ideas. ♀️ Maybe it’s a fuchsia-coral hybrid? I think next I might remove the bottom half and do a fuchsia-violet-cyan ombré.
