Birth/postpartum story:
At 1:30 pm on 4/24/19, our little darling arrived! Her delivery was my most intense, as were the first 24 hours.
I went in to be induced at 0 cm dilated, 0% effaced, but ended up not even needing pitocin, since the second cervical softening pill sent me into radical labor, dilating 4 cm an hour. I’ve never felt such pain, and this was my first time puking from transition. Oh how I wished I could jump out of my body and escape those surges! Another kicker: Tyler was stuck in traffic during this, even when I was at an 8.5! He did make it in time, and only got to see the post-epidural elation
Eight hours after delivery, I experienced pain even worse, this time back labor, and it was like delivering a baby sans pain medications. The nurse asked if I had a surprise second baby in there. Quickly, she realized it was a postpartum hemorrhage when I passed a waterfall of lemon-sized clots , then started fainting into her arms. An hour later, baby girl was choking; as I leaned out of bed to help her, my legs were tied up (due to clotting pressers) and I couldn’t reach her! As I leaned over, I experienced another slight hemorrhage. Of course, I yelled for help and it came; bless those nurses!!!!! Man, giving birth is not for the faint of heart!
However, since those moments, we have been on cloud nine; the at-home transition from 2-3 children has been by far the easiest. I am 4 days postpartum and feel completely normal in every way, except in the belly and chest. This girl only wakes me up once or twice a night for mega feedings, so I feel fully rested and able to resume life as normal. To my surprise, I can get ready, make crepes for breakfast, go out to lunch, take the kids to t-ball practice, etc! The kids adore their new sister and we are just so content. It feels like she was always meant to be with us because she is fitting right in to our lives with ease.
I would do this 1000 more times. She brings such a special spirit to our home! I feel God’s love and blessing upon our family more than ever. What a miracle. It was all worth it and more —————— Two extra funny moments shared in the comments
