So this is the equivalent of passing the guard the first time ever, or riding your bike with no training wheels...but I finally was able to surf a small but real green wave!! I had just about given up on believing I would ever be able to ‍♀️ so you can imagine how thrilled I was that @des_at_play and I were able to catch this point break during our surf camp with @hiddencoastsurf. In my many years of being a student of bjj, getting crushed and throttled the first 5 years, not having a clue what I was doing and being stubborn enough to stick it out has taught me there are better ways to do things. I feel like BJJ and surfing are very similar in that they are complex but beautiful art forms that require you to embrace the energy of your opponent, or the sea. This is sometimes a vague and confusing space and it’s easy to get lost. I’m really glad to have sought out a phenomenal teacher who could articulate what I was and wasn’t doing, taught me more of what I should do and where to go with it.
