**Finally** finished this piece. It's been my project to keep my hands busy during my evening class (I'm a fidgeter), and I've been working on it since January. Really pleased with how it turned out, but also excited to move on to a new project! ❤✂️

The same but different...
For some reason I decided to stitch tiny pieces of cloth and thread to a large length of paper. Why?! Betsy (my BFF sewing machine) is complaining about driving over such fragile terrain and keeps getting tangled up in knots. The paper used to sit on my studio table and is stained with plant pigments from my painting work - it was too pretty to compost. I like that the dashes of cloth resemble the petals and drips of pigment in my painting work. It’s almost as if I know what I’m doing lol

Today’s studio soundtrack: David Bowie’s set from Glastonbury 2000. He definitely knew what he was doing
Studio notes:
I’m trying to finish a piece for exhibition but I’m dithering, and that’s a bad thing. I’m lacking the courage to take the next leap with my paper based work, so I sit for hours just looking at it and mumbling to myself about how I *should* be doing better, and how I *should* have finished this piece by now. And then I remember that last week my therapist told me to practice self-compassion and I start talking to myself as if I’m my best friend. And my best friend says to me, “FFS Jacqueline, you’re grieving so hard right now, you barely sleep, you’re trying to look after your dad from 5,000 miles away, and you expect to be making great art too? Give yourself a break!”

When I’m ready I’m going to re-create this drawing as a large stitchery on the paper in the background. Grieving is a slow practice, just like my art.
