The Lunni - named after the seabird puffin in Finnish language - is a product tanker built at the Norbiskrug shipyard, Rendsburg, Germany, in 1976. Product tankers are vessels designed to transport refined oil products, and different from crude tankers, which transport unrefined, crude oil. The Lunni was the first of four sister ships ordered by the Finnish oil company Neste Oyj. The ship was designed to be able to operate in the icy waters of the Baltic Sea without the assistance of an icebreaker. Her engines where more powerful than the one of usual product tankers, her high stem has a form similar of that of an icebreaker and she was equipped with an "air bubble" system to reduce friction between the hull and ice. With this features, the Lunni and her sisters could independently break through ice that is up to 1 meter thick. The ship was drastically upgraded through a modernization in 1994. Her propeller system was changed for an Azipod, an electric azimuth thruster. This means that the propellers are mounted in a pod that can be turned horizontally in any direction. With this feature, a ship has no need for a rudder anymore, becomes highly manoeuvrable and can directits full power in any direction. This feature has become usual in modern tugs. The Lunni was the second merchant ship to ever use Azipod, just after her sister ship Varzuga. Through her carreer, Le Lunni proved several times to be capable of duty in the harsher conditions of the Arctic Ocean. The state owned Finnish oil company Fortum Oyj sold the Lunni to the Russian Murmansk Shipping Company in 2003. The ship was in very good conditions and the reason to sold her was just that she was over 25 years old. Her new owners renamed her Индига, the MT Indiga, and she is still on duty in Arctic waters today. This model in a scale of 1:100 was built by G. Schmidt for the Norbiskrug shipyard and is part of the collection Peter Tamm since 1987.It is on display on deck 6 of the museum.
