2 weeks from now Barbara Shaw and I will be installing our show at Silence. Recently completed - “In the presence of Grace - 2” oil on wood panel, 29”X23”. I am waiting for it to cure after applying a protective coat of cold wax medium. #guelphartist #contemporarypainting #oilpainting #oilandcoldwax #ontarioartist #ontarionorth #northernlakes #killarneyprovincialpark #lovecanoeing #backcountrycamping #abstractpainting #abstractlandscape #north #lovethenorth #lovenature @silenceguelph @downtownguelph

Green Quartz and Amethyst veins, untouched glacier-polished surface exposures near Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada - I was amazed to see this impressive vein network cutting the granite of the Canadian Shield. Green quartz is really unusual, and it’s normally coloured by inclusions of other minerals in colourless quartz, but this stuff is different. I really need to send some to Rossman to figure out the chromosphere. There are some nice vugs exposed; mostly lined with dark amethyst crystals. Some very, very pale green quartz crystals have been found here, but the color is ephemeral, best seen in sunlight. One of these pix has my boot in it for scale. This claim was staked some thirty years ago, and has never been mined... can you imagine what a few good blasts would reveal!
