It was announced today that technology pioneer Alan Turing will be the face of the Bank of England's 50-pound note. A math whiz, Turing provided some of the earliest and sharpest research for computing, algorithmic programming, and artificial intelligence. He famously devised the Turing Test, which essentially said if you put a computer and a human in different rooms then asked them the same question and the answers would be indistinguishable from each other. Prior to his breakthrough test, Turing led the team at the secretive Bletchley Park compound that cracked the Nazi 'enigma code,' a pivotal point in World War II. Sadly, despite his contributions to the war effort and his radical developments in technology, Turing loved mostly as a pariah because he was gay. He plead guilty to indecency charges and was forced to undergo chemical castration. He committed suicide in 1954 at the age of 41. Turing's life and accomplishments have received renewed attention in recent years thanks to the Oscar-nominated film "The Imitation Game," starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan and Keira Knightley as his confidante, Joan. Turing has also been the subject of several other films, television series, theatrical performances, artwork, and music during the past 10 years. He led an incredible life and is truly a forefather of of modern technology.

Number two: genealogical charts. I'm looking in every newspaper, book and document I can find for the family trees of the French, German, Spanish, English, Austrian, Russian, Norwegian and Dutch royal families. I've made great progress with many of them, because for a long time I've been taking notes while reading biographies or history books. I even copy out many of the passages on history.” Her third hobby is history. Anne can hardly wait for the day when she will be able to go to the Public Library and ferret out the information she needs. Her forth hobby is Greek and Roman mythology. “I have various books on this subject too. I can name the nine Muses and the seven loves of Zeus. I have the wives of Heracles, etc., etc., down pat.” Anne’s other hobbies are movie stars and family photographs: “I'm crazy about reading and books. I adore the history of the arts, especially when it concerns writers, poets and painters; musicians may come later. I loathe algebra, geometry and arithmetic.
