The large flowers of the Disa uniflora are quite famous and loved amongst orchid enthusiasts, yet they are not commonly seen. This is because the plants are very demanding. I wouldn't say difficult but hey just have a rather narrow range in which they thrive. First of all they like cool roots. Therefore it's best to keep the pot in a layer of water in full shade while the leaves receive some sun. Second thing is that they cannot handle salts very well. So it's best to fertilize them veeeery lightly and rinse the soil with clean rain or osmosis water on a regular basis. Third thing is that they cannot battle fungal and bacterial infections very well. So keep the plants clean and remove all dead tissue before it starts to rot. They are demanding but the reward is big. Not only are the flowers very impressive, they also last for months. Even as cut flowers Disa can look perfect for well over a month. You can even pollinate cut flowers and harvest viable seed from them. These seeds you can sow straight on peat moss and not in a lab like most other orchids. I photographed the flowers @hortusleiden where they are now displayed in the bulb house.
