I have been trying to learn and improve when it comes to fly fishing or any kind of fishing really .. there has been a lot of knots, lost flies to bushes and even me literally sprinting up a hill of boulders because I wanted to get to another spot before a guy, which led me to be Face first laid out on the hill (lesson not learned.. would do it again) this weekend was a reset and a reminder why I love fishing so much. The feeling, the places, and the tug on the other end. I have never caught, but lost a brown on the fly in CO and MT... I have been so determined to catch one it just never happened but this weekend it did, when I saw this guy on the end I was so excited i wanted to cry.. he may not be the biggest but he meant the world to me! This here is the Owyhee canyon, a place I really love. It's one of those places where you show up and immediately get your mind blown - you ask yourself, "this is Oregon?". And then the stars pop out in all their glory and you go skinny dipping washing the red dirt off your face hands and feet. I do hope I'll be able to do this when I turn 90, but even if I'm dead or too feeble I hope the generations after me will be finding all the hidden earth treasures like Three Forks hot springs and Leslie Gulch and "River hotdogs". Sometimes we hold these magical places so tight for fear they'll be "overrun" with instagrammin' neck tattooed hipsters but to me the real threats are land grabbin' resource extracting entities without a soul and their captains giving away public land and stealing joy.
