Don't let fear control how you live your life. This is something I've been trying to embrace lately. A few months ago I decided I was going to learn how to surf. When I was around 12 years old, I saved up and bought a second hand board and had some lessons, but eventually fear took over and the board ended up in the street clean up.
〰
This time was different. With the thought of drowning and sharks still firmly in the back of my mind, I forced myself to do it anyway, and I realised that I was capable of far more than I thought I was.
〰
Maybe one day I'll come face to face with one of these beautiful creatures in the ocean, and as I keep reminding myself everytime I paddle out, it might not be a bad thing. ✌

#BREAKING Thousands flock to Australia’s beaches today to paddle out in an act of solidarity and community defiance in the face of Big Oil. The Australian community have risen to the challenge of showing Equinor we stand together, and will fight to keep an oil rig out of our Bight. Thousands of people paddled out in Torquay on the weekend to oppose @equinor’s plans to drill in the Great Australian Bight. CT surfers @john_john_florence @owright @jackfreestone @nikkivandijk and @alanarblanchard were in attendance as @mattydunbar captured the powerful scenes. Over 30,000 submissions were received by NOPSEMA against the drilling while paddle outs took place all over the country. The state-owned Norwegian oil and gas company downplayed the public uproar and is pushing on with their plans. As a result, the @greataustralianbightalliance has filed a motion to ‘refrain Equinor from fossil fuel exploration and production activities in frontier and immature areas, and areas of particularly high ecological value’, such as the Bight. The motion will be heard at Equinor’s next AGM on 15 May 2019. We’re all hoping for the right outcome! If you’re still confused about what’s happening, you can read our comprehensive guide through the link in our bio. Video by @mattydunbar #BigOilDontSurf #FightForTheBight #MOTIONSmagazine
Hundreds of surfers paid tribute to the victims of the Christchurch terror attack by forming a huge circle in the ocean at Sumner Beach. ♂️
50 white flowers were placed in the middle of the circle, representing each of the people killed in the shootings, and the participants of the paddle-out observed a minute of silence. ❤️
