A motorised colony of a festive motorcycle reconnaissance squad, in honour of Adolf Hitler’s 50th birthday on 20 April, 1939. From the memoirs of Hitler’s valet, Heinz Linge who later recalled Hitler preparing for the festivity: “The Führer donned his brown Party uniform and put on the golden dress belt of a German general as Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht. He stood before the mirror in his bedroom for ages, feasting his eyes on his own image like a peacock and repeatedly adjusting his jacket”.

Two extraordinary Prince albums, Parade and Sign O' the Times were released in the USA on this day in 1986 and 1987 respectively. Released with the subtitle “Music from the motion picture Under the Cherry Moon,” Parade is Prince’s second soundtrack album, and the third and final album with his band @therevolution. The first single from Parade, “Kiss,” became a smash hit around the globe, and remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks. Other standout tracks from the album include "Girls and Boys," Sometimes It Snows in April," and "Mountains," among others. Sign O’ the Times was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the 1980s. Three of the album’s singles — “Sign O’ the Times,” “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man,” and “U Got the Look,” featuring Sheena Easton — landed in the top 10 of the Billboard charts, making it Prince's most commercially triumphant album since Purple Rain. Though rooted deeply in the volatile cultural and social happenings of the time, the album is perfectly balanced with moments of lightheartedness and danceability.
