My startup failed and I was living in one of the most expensive cities in the world: SF. "I guess I'm not entrepreneur material. I don't have *it*". That's what I believed. I finished school, had bills to pay, and took a job at a startup. ⠀ ✨⠀ It was one of the best decisions I ever made. ⠀ ✨⠀ Not because it was a perfect experience, not because the company raised a ton of money and had amazing perks, but because of the mentorship I got there. ⠀ ✨⠀ After trying so hard at something and failing, I felt stagnant. And I was. I was 24, and had never had a real mentor before, someone to help guide my learning experience, call me out on what needed improvement, and support me when I doubted myself. Many of us believe we're meant for more, but don't know what next step to take.⠀ ✨⠀ I doubted my abilities harddddd after my app tanked. I doubted my own decisions. I felt like I needed to do what other people did. ⠀ ✨⠀ But just because I failed didn't mean I wasn't capable. And I had an amazing mentor at that startup who helped me see that. And it's because of that experience that I was able to push forward in my career, build my confidence, and start dreaming again about what was possible for me.⠀ ✨⠀ There's no doubt you can figure things out on your own - you're smart. But it'll take you way longer, and it can be a lonely road. Having a great mentor literally 10x'd my learning curve and helped me get to where I am today. ⠀ ✨⠀ Everyone needs guidance sometimes. You're not any less capable or smart for asking for help when you need it. Investing in yourself - in your learning - will pay dividends your whole life. Have you?⠀ ✨⠀ I think the mistake I made in the past is I didn't properly reflect on why that was happening. I just kept pushing, trying to check the next thing off my list, without taking a step back and asking myself "what am I actually trying to do here?"⠀ ✨⠀ Is something not working for you in your career or biz? Do you feel stagnant even though you're burning the midnight oil? If yes, you're not alone, I think we've all been there.⠀ ✨⠀ Give yourself space to step away and ask yourself "what am I actually trying to accomplish?" and ask yourself why you're trying to accomplish that. Note: this takes time to flush out and process bbs, so be kind to yourself . ⠀ ✨⠀ When we get clear on what we're trying to accomplish and why, it becomes a hellllll of a lot easier to prioritize - to say yes to the right things and no to the wrong things. It's okay to not know what next step to take. Making decisions is hard, especially when it's about your career or business. ⠀ ✨⠀ And with alllllll the webinars, Medium articles, blog posts, and videos out there telling you what you should do - well, it's overwhelming AF .⠀ ✨⠀ When we're learning or doing something new, or even thinking about trying something we haven't done before, no shit we're going to feel like we aren't sure what next step to take! That's why it's new - and very normal bbs . ⠀ ✨⠀ The thing is, the next step the person next to you would take might not be the right step for you. Only you know that. And even if you feel like you don't know, deep down you do. With a little guidance and space to breath, you can tap into your intuition and take the next step that's right for you.⠀ ✨⠀ I've struggled so much with trying to "read up" on what I "should" do in my career or business. And there is good advice out there, but it doesn't mean that advice is right *for me*. ⠀ ✨⠀ Getting confident in my own ability to decide how I want to do things in my life and business based on what feels good *for me* and what success looks like *for me* has helped me decipher signal from noise and ultimately do what's best *for me*.⠀ ✨⠀ We all have a different idea of what success looks like. Before you jump into tactics or action, ask yourself if you've done the work or gotten support to help you get clear on what it is you want.⠀ ✨⠀ p.s. give yourself time - this is deep important work - it won't happen overnight, so don't beat yourself up if you don't have an "aha" moment in 24 hrs . ⠀ ✨⠀ Are you struggling with what next step you should take? The older I get the more I realize how important personal development truly is. I was so burnt out on reading and text books and self help books after college. ‍♀️ I dreaded the thought of “reading an article”. I even shrugged at the thought of reading my Bible because I couldn’t stay focused on the text. Well it’s a little bit like working out. Once it becomes apart of your routine, you don’t feel the same without it and once it actually benefits you, it becomes a small obsession. What are some of your personal development tools?
