There are subtle things: If you look at the audience when Roger is doing blackface, everyone's laughing, Cosgrove cracks a smile at the end...Pete is completely unamused. The morning after MLK's assassination [Pete & Harry’s confrontation]. . His genuine confusion about Admiral Television's resistance to market to Black people. . . . . [Discussing continuing protests demanding Federal intervention in Selma, Alabama (March 12, 1965)] Bert: They got what they wanted. Why aren't they happy? Pete: because... Lassie can stay at the Waldorf and they can't. Execs from a competing ad agency, Y&R, get caught dropping paper bags full of water on Black protestors. Don & Roger have a laugh about. Pete is clearly put off but, again, this is a minor thing that could easily be missed. There are more moments—now that I've realized it, it seems obvious. It's just something you don't pay attention to initially because you're distracted by Pete being a such whiny, uncharismatic shithead whose insecurities ultimately cause him to treat women poorly. Season 5, SCDP is forced to hire a Black person because of joke ad that Don [& Roger] put in the paper. When one of their competitors finds out, they send over an African statue with a resume attached to it. Notice the difference in reactions in Don & Roger vs Pete.” #### . .
