Enjoying my stay in a beautiful Radisson Philadelphia. . . . After all the discoveries, nice to come back to a nice hotel and hit the pillow

When it comes to travelling, for me it's all about WHAT TO SEE. . I can't save money on attractions and things to do in a new country and place. What's the point to travel then . . Expensive Hotels is the last on the list i am willing to spend my money on. . But sometimes, when you look deep enough and put lots of investigation, you might find a super hotel at a good price ✌. . This is what happened in Philadelphia. We got Raddison at a good rate. But we had to cut expenses for a hotel in New York and other cities, so we can go places and explore .. . .

"Everyone who knows, goes to Melrose,” went the old radio jingle. So I did just that. The Melrose Diner is an obligatory stop on a Philadelphia roadside Americana crawl. The diner opened in 1935 and is now in its third structure, a 1956 Paramount diner that underwent a somewhat heavy handed renovation (that red roof is not original) after an ownership change a decade ago, but its pedigree is unmistakable. One of the highlights is the sign's clock -- it's correct only twice a day but it's clever as heck, shaped like a coffee mug with the hands designed like a knife and fork, distilling the essence of the experience. The Melrose is particularly well known for its bakery, and the buttercake is said to be divine. Outside lurks a phone booth, the kind Superman preferred. It still features its Verizon signage, but the telephone company (fancy name aside, it's still the old Bell of Pennsylvania at its heart) long ago got out of the pay-phone business, and this one is abandoned, the receiver vandalized beyond repair. Fortunately, we still have the Melrose, in considerably better shape. #retrologist
