Introducing - 'The Green Muse' - vitreous enamel, rhodocrosite, with silver-and-quartz chain in a Fin-De-Siecle style setting. To create her, I lay down paper-thin wires of fine silver onto a disc of prepared copper, bent and twisted with slim pincers to form her outline. One breath, one jiggle of the table - and they are blown everywhere, or worse, moe an eye or eyebrow just so as to change her expression. Once fired into place, these resulting cells of silver are filled with a wetted two-grain layer of powdered glass that has been thoroughly washed prior. This layer is then fired in the kiln. A process repeated very many times to achieve depth and colour, and a great mix of translucence and opaqueness. Order of procedure counts - and only time will teach which colors to lay first, which ones don't play nice with others, and another million minutiae that are involved in creating a little scene in melted glass. With each piece you see, there's an average of eight attempts that failed which you don't see. From too long in the kiln to a rogue bit of dust, many things conspire to ruin your little bit of presumptious alchemy. But oh, when it succeeds...⁠ .⁠ I managed to get a great iridescence on that green layer and I love the way her blue-black hair turned out. The enamel has a kind of depth about it, that opals have. I fall in love with this medium more and more.⁠ .⁠ This necklace is available in the shop, link in bio my dears.⁠
