Working on this new deck has me so deeply aligned and in my vortex again - everyday feels like heaven! The research I’ve been doing alone has me SO LIT UP and I can’t wait to share more of my findings on some of the worlds most amazing flora! Like me, the deck is super eclectic in terms of plant types - I’m covering flowers, trees, fruits, resins, barks, fungi and also exploring the medicine of some of the most ancient traditional psychoactive plants used in ceremony.
My work with essential oils the last couple of years has opened me up to this world, the gateway to this project and I know so many of you who already work with plants in this form are going to benefit so much from this deck, too.
I froth all things natural medicine and want to shine a light, as a curious white western woman, on the importance of these natural gifts from mama earth and help us urban folk rewild a little and feel empowered to work with them more intimately in our day to day world. I’m sure you’d all agree we’ve strayed very far away from nature in a lot of ways, and our modern mental and physical health conditions reflect that. My aim with this project is to create a bridge to access deeper understanding, respect, connection and union with earths plant teachers and medicine.
The art is whimsy and light in my usual style, the words are like tonic for the soul and the research is honouring traditions and origins that move well past modern times and pay homage and respect to those who have worked with these plants for centuries.
It’s important to me to stress that any work I create never comes from a place of authority - and always from curiousity and a longing to deepen my own relationships to this natural world and it’s kin. I can’t wait to give birth to this baby. You could say I’m in the first trimester right now - feeling all the feels. Planning, researching, rushes of excitement and overwhelm. All of it. I’ll be inviting you into this world over the next month as I continue to dive deeper into her creation. She’ll be born end of 2019 @hayhouseaustralia #botanicaloracle #plantkin

With Respect // To the folks who held space in community tonight, who held space for me, who opened their hearts to our plant kin, our interconnected ancestors. Gratitude, always, for those who step into decolonizing and demystifying our Medicine, as my plant sisters @mama_maiz and @she_is_of_the_woods say. And love to @mielapothecary for being such a gracious hostess.

Supposedly my Mountain Grandma used to make dandelion soup. I reckon I should find that recipe before the opportunity eludes me. In the mean time, this week in the world of wild fermentation brings an experiment in dandelion wine.
