Since my first pregnancy, my dream as a mom was for me & my girls to all twin in Barbie pink @lillypulitzer dresses. So when I had a boy first I had to postpone that dream a couple years until I was blessed with Ella...and then Ava 2 years later. I usually only share our more successful moments on Insta but I thought it was important to share our Lilly fail. In my head this was going to be our epic Lilly look for #springbreak. I'm wearing the 14 & it's too big and too small all in one (I felt lumpy) and the girls sized down & their dresses still hung on them (they are wearing 10 & 12 and any smaller it would have cut into their armpits). I strategically hid behind the girls because I wanted to capture this moment but I just didn't feel great about myself in this dress. One can argue that it was not my cut (or theirs) and a bit of tailoring might have helped but I left frustrated because frankly, I'm not that big. I may be on the bigger side for an influencer but at a 12/14 I'm still smaller than the average sized American woman which is now 16-18. So I'm gonna use @curvily's #plussizeplease hashtag for a call to action for Lilly to not just start cutting larger sizes (they currently stop at 14/XL which even I had trouble with) but to consider that women have #realwomenhavecurves and boobs & hips need to be accommodated. The only time Lilly ever had plus was when they had a collab with Target which everyone went gaga for. Maybe they do have styles that would flatter my curves but that day was just not my day. After trying on dress after dress with my kids waiting patiently for almost 2 hours, I walked out of the store empty handed—and my pink Lilly dreams were crushed in that moment. I know there are some influencers who would have taken the dresses anyway & pinned them to get the shot but that's just not me. I want to share what we actually wear and love—and share pieces that actually flatter this momma's body. I used to feel that if I couldn't fit something I needed to loose weight but I'm slowly realizing that maybe I'm not the problem. We need more #sizeinclusive fashion. And I need to teach my kids that if I don't love this body then who will?
