How many times has it returned to the east Before the spell of the year has ceased?  What’s a year to us really? What’s “the year” that we know? The metric of life, cause a faith deemed it so? A faith we don’t follow, practice nor preach, Yet has sculpted our lives how we cannot unteach.  So I choose to believe years are measured in stars, Not the blazing white circles, but the dreams which are ours. Not the stars that we gaze at, then trace upon charts, But the stars that we cluster in the depths of our hearts.  These starlets I speak of, we collect all our lives, We pour them in buckets, we smoke them in hives. Or maybe you string them ‘round the frame of your bed? Or maybe your starshine resides in your head.  Either way, I refuse to shoot down my stars In favour of a system that locks behind bars The fledgling within me that’s aliferous and free, That should always have a place in the make-up of me.  I refuse to loose the child inside, The child who ever smiled so wide I refuse to let you loose her too – For she’s too beautiful a part of the make-up of you.
