It's #PollinatorWeek! While flying insects may be the most common pollinators, many other animals are important pollinators as well. The critically endangered black-and-white ruffed lemur (Varecia variegata) is the world's largest pollinator, according to @u.s.forestservice. They are the main pollinators of the traveller's tree or traveller's palm (Ravenala madagascariensis). When sticking their snouts and tongues into the tree's flowers to obtain nectar, the lemurs collect pollen on their muzzle and fur, which is then transported to the next flower.

This week is the United States Pollinator week, we’re multiple organization are trying to raise awareness for an issue of paramount importance, due to that whole many of the foods we eat are brought about by pollinators. Over the last few years I’ve dedicated my free learning to a different subject each summer, usually broadening my insect or plant knowledge, this year I focused on Silkmoths, and more specifically the keeping and rearing of them. This was a wild female Tulip Tree Silkmoth that has already mated, then being found by @formerlyhomelessphotographer, he kindly saved her for me and now I’ll raise all of the young in a controlled environment to increase the release number next summer, helping the population in #NewJersey. Check out the link in my story for more about pollinator week and @mnochisaki for more about moth information.
What plants in your garden get the most attention from pollinators? Pollinators such as, bees, butterflies, beetles, birds, bats and other small mammals are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. Somewhere between 75% and 95% of all flowering plants need pollinators, yet pollinator populations are in decline due to habitat loss, disease, and the overuse of pesticides. We can help pollinators by selecting plants for our gardens that help pollinators thrive. To find out what helpful plants you can grow based on your climate zone, head to https://www.pollinator.org/guides and select your region.

Are you curious about the impact your purchases have when you buy from Nature Supply Co?
Since the Bee + Butterfly Habitat Fund started in 2015, they have planted over 3,500 acres of wildflowers. Thanks to all of your support, we have been able to help plant 30 of those acres since 2017 (the equivalent of roughly 30 football fields)!#nationalpollinatorweek
