Good morning Can you tell what these two creatures are? I think the one on the left is pretty obvious but the right one is a little more ambiguous. Make a guess (-: Mick started working on these and I finished them up to this point to make sure they will fire safely in the kiln. Blending is key! They're waiting for me back in my space in Singapore to glaze and so on. These little projects are fun and get the creative juices flowing. These are two creatures I believe I have never made before and they're a bit larger than most of my work. But I actually really like how they feel on the hand at that point and I can't wait to have them all finished. Fingers crossed all things go well and I'm on my flight back this week. Hello A meek lion with a nest tucked in on the top of his mane. One small egg resides within. That nest was a fiddly little thing to make but that's the fun of it, I'm glad it turned out looking more like a nest than I hoped. There's a little divot where the leaf is for a sprig of dried flora or an incense stick. I plan to leave the nest matte and add touches of gold on it. Maybe the egg too? I worked with a different clay than I normally do for this piece and it definitely had a different hand feel and behaved in such a way I was not used to. It dries much slower and doesn't hold it's shape as well while being sculpted. But thing is when I first started using the regular porcelain that I do, I had so much trouble with it too. You just keep going with it and after awhile you understand the material so well you know what to do and exactly when to do so to achieve what you're after I made a lion this time because Mick's here to visit in Shanghai and lions are one of his favourite animals symbolically.
