One of the many projects I'm stoked to be involved in. We just opened up the trapping network in Molesworth to help reduce introduced mammalian predator numbers down before the black-fronted terns return to breed there in October. They're nationally endangered and endemic to NZ, and are faced with many threats including introduced mammalian predators, habitat loss, weed encroachment and recreational use of rivers. There are serious challenges with protecting these birds in such dynamic and heavily impacted environments but every little bit helps! #predatorfreenz #conservation #nz

Thanks to the team at the Eastern Bays Song Bird Project for their efforts to make our local area pest free. I popped by to say hello and grab a couple of traps for home. Two weeks ago I started working for predator free Wellington on the first stage of their grand plan to eradicate rats, possums and mustelids from Wellington City. Miramar is about 70% installed with a dense grid of traps and bait stations with the plan to eradicate from the Peninsula by Christmas. Something of this scale in an urban environment has never been attempted before and I'm Hella excited to be involved!! If you see these devices around Wellington, please do not touch!
