I cleared the last bottle out of our house this week, I think I hung onto it for a couple months bc I just couldn’t let go It dictated so much of twin life. scheduled feedings. precise amounts, no more no less. we used to ask our NICU nurses for permission to feed the babies 2 minutes early and going forward we rarely ever missed a feeding at home by a minute for many many months. the bottle resembles a thousand hours of pumping. many tubs of formula. and tons and tons of milk. it resembles nurses, doctors, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and friends who helped us nourish our two tiny babies as I said goodbye to the bottle i said hello to major reflection modethey say ONE is the milestone birthday but TWO is feeling pretty big for mama. for the last 23 months I wondered if these 33 weekers were “catching up” and here we are, just shy of two, and essentially that. caught up they’ve got tall bodies, giant feet, lots of words, big personalities, contagious laughs and are the sweetest beings I will ever know. thank you to all our people for getting us this far. it takes a village#twinlife #preemies #family #friends #blessed

“The day this little boy was born, the doctors tried to convince me to let him have a natural death. They said if i didn’t, he’d have a “poor quality of life” and he’d be disabled in many ways. The survival chances of my baby that wasn’t even considered a baby were less than 10%. I said as long as his heart was beating i was going to fight for him. And today at his therapy session, he walked over 20+ ft. A baby that was born 17 weeks early. Born at 23 weeks gestational age weighing 420 grams (14 oz) and measuring 10in made it. He’s now 19 months today (15 months adjusted) and even though he took longer than most babies to walk, he did it. I celebrate each and every milestone. Every day is a celebration. I’m so thankful to God I’m here today sharing our success story. For the mommies in the nicu, fight along with your baby. They are stronger than anyone knows.
