A weeks worth of eggs. The blues are so pale they almost look white and I’m still missing that elusive green egg ( that my Olive Egger pullet actually lays green eggs when she starts laying) but this is so much better than the eggs I was buying from the grocery store two years ago. I feel like I’m living a dream!

A bakers dozen, along with a single serama egg. Beyond sweet finding these amongst the big eggs in the nest boxes. We have some layers that lay huge double yolkers, some that lay small eggs, a mixture of bantams eggs and these tiny serama eggs all in the same nest boxes. The variety in sizes, colours, shapes and even textures makes every day exciting!
Very exciting news!!
Yesterday we found out we are going to be featured in @backyardpoultrymag latest issue! We will be in the “flocks to follow” section so so cool.
Incase you didn’t know, ‘We’ means me (Charlie) and my 8 year old son Dylan. We live in the English countryside, and have a passion for chickens and coloured eggs. We are not a farm, just chicken obsessed, so to be featured in America’s TOP poultry magazine is just bonkers!! Thanks @backyardpoultrymag
In other news, yesterday I only collected 8 eggs from 31 laying hens most of them are moulting or broody. Still - we were so pleased to find this beautiful speckled olive in the picture
Sharing these pretties for #eggenvy with @highlandhomestead @eggenvy
So we’re on day 13 in the maternity coop. There’s been a fair bit of drama.
Jolene (left) pushed out 3 of her eggs, deciding they were no good, while Peggy pushed out 1.
Peggy (right) then hopped out for a dust bath, and couldn’t work out how to walk back up the ramp.. so she went to brood in the main coop instead.
Jolene took advantage of her absence and switched nests to hers, and added two new eggs just to cement her claim.
I popped Peggy back in and she hopped onto the empty nest and all was well.
A few days later Jolene decided to hop out for a quick bath and just like Peggy she got confused and couldn’t find her way back in.
I found her, again, in the main coop brooding on a single egg.
In her absence Peggy had switched back to her original nest, so when putting her back Jolene had to resume brooding on the smaller nest once more.
They have since both been very committed and really don’t like leaving their nests.
I candled a few of the lighter eggs this morning (can’t see through the marans and olive egger shells at all) and I could see little chicks swimming about! So fingers crossed for a good hatch a week from tomorrow

My ladies are on the up and up, laying more every day, even the bantams are joining in again! I sell them just outside my house, we live on a little country lane on the edge of our village, so it’s just perfect for people walking by with their dogs, to the fields that surround us. I decided to start taking orders for the eggs as they sell out so quickly, not sure it was the best idea as I’m now sold out for at least the next 3 weeks but it’s all good! I’m so glad we started our little farm.
