The power of reflection really is just so divine. 03/30/16 (the second picture): I had a glass of wine to celebrate getting my “p” status to SGT (civilian friends, that’s a huge step to getting promoted to the next rank). I was so happy because not only did I get my p status but I did it with no one in my corner. I had a boss who was sexist as shit, did not believe in me and was harshly open about that, and truly did everything in his power to sabotage me advancing my career. I fought so to get to that promotion board. A lot of sweat and tears, seriously. It’s motivating to try and prove people wrong, but it’s also hard as fuck to feel unworthy and alone. I had no family and not many strong friendships at the time for moral support. I was renting a pretty small room from a friend and sharing it with Nina (my dog). I could pack up all of my belongings in 30 mins. I was lost, but my heart was resilient & grateful. 02/01/2018: I went to the SSG Promotion board today & I received my “p” status. I went with my boss, who is an outstanding leader that I trust in and admire and who.... dun dun dun.... BELIEVES in me! and who actually forced/encouraged me to go despite me feeling like I wouldn’t be able to handle it (because of my current classes + work + emt recert). I have my own home here that makes me want to cry every time I drive into the parking lot (happy tears of c). My belongings would easily take a day to pack up. I have many strong relationships and a family (@medinajuan_ + Nina). Again, I’m having that glass of wine. I don’t know how to sum up my emotions.. but wow, LIFE...
