When strictly examining the formal nature of the produced garments, one may think the collection was a study on american school uniforms or summer camp attire under the lens of 80s horror flicks… and they would be right. The horror aesthetic was further illustrated by the natural distressing of the silhouettes caused by a chemical treatment that over time eats away at the fabric induced by the wearer’s body heat. In regards to this graphic, “Virginia Creeper” is rendered in a style reminiscent of american varsity typography, arced over a high contrast image of the plant, with it’s scientific name “Parthenocissus quinquefolia” written underneath. This specific iteration features a wash that is reminiscent of a navy crewneck that has aged to perfection, illustrated by the unmatchable gradient throughout the silhouette. At it’s core, this collection was focused on the duality of man and nature, however formally, the produced garments were straight out of an 80s horror movie. The typography is a clear reference to American varsity apparel, which was the basis for most of the silhouettes throughout the collection. Moving past this, the highly sought after graphic masterpieces generated during the FW05 collection are essentially a graphic catalogue of the designer’s vision, as his various pools of references are materialized largely by @peterdepotter. Unlike the well known references, “haunted history” is the focal point for this specific piece.
