Call it a sunny day fund: eight cisterns (those giant steel containers along the wall) collect virtually all of the rainwater that hits the roof of our LEED Platinum Allen Education Center. They hold up to 54,400 gallons collectively, which means even in the hottest, driest times, we're able to maintain our sunny landscapes without dipping into town drinking water supplies.
In a home garden, a rain barrel does the same thing, and it also reduces the rush of stormwater runoff that leads to erosion and floods downstream.
Nice little rainy day in Ketchikan today with mom and dad. We visited our favorite little shop there. If you ever find your way to this sweet little town you have to drop into Rain Barrel. Great jewelry and gifts from Alaska and our sweet friends there in Ketchikan. #tillnexttime #takemymoney #jesuspeople #alaska #ketchikan #rainbarrel #rainyday #momanddad #cruisinglife
I've seen this done before with gutters attached to solar panels. Such a great way to catch extra water. ▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️

▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️ I can already hear you ask 'what the heck is this?' It's a 1000lt tank with a roof on it! Not very exciting for most people but for me this is awesome! I've made it for quick access to water for bushfires and burning off and will have a few around in the hard to reach places of the property or where water is a bit far away. When it rains, the roof captures the rain water and fills the tank. It means by the time summer comes along they would have filled themselves up and I don't need to cart water around. The tank cost $100 second hand and all the roof bits and guttering came from the tip, the only other things I needed to buy was three fittings for the pipe.

Let's cherish the rain and use it! Save water by collecting rain in a rain barrel (for example our pure raindrop). It is not only better for your wallet, it is also better for the environment , and believe us, your plants LOVE rainwater! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Today 10 years ago I presented the first prototype of Raindrop (then called A Drop of Water) to the graduation committee of Design Academy Eindhoven after some months of incredibly hard work on the prototype with a small team of friends. I graduated on that day as the departments nominee for the René Smeets Award for best graduation work (which I eventually ended up winning!). Some months after graduating, I contacted Dutch pottery label Elho about the project and upon their invitation, I took the prototype to Tilburg (by public transport, on a small trolley ) to present the concept to the board of directors. The design was introduced in Elho's collection and now, 10 years later, the Raindrop has found its way to thousands of gardens, has been widely exhibited and published all around the globe, was adopted in the collection of museums and has won numerous design awards. The design was the reason to invite me for lecturing in the most extraordinary places in the world, meet some of the most iconic and inspirational people in the design field and has allowed me to develop my studio for the past years.
I’m so thankful that this design has been part of my life and for the joy it has brought to peoples lives. Happy birthday, Raindrop!!

Njut dagen Helleborus in the garden beside an old wine-barrel. Now filled with rain water. The rain made the garden green and every drop is valuable.
