Pawpaw fruit cluster looking good. It seems like the cluster is around the same size, just getting slightly thicker in diameter. Someone told me the last 6 weeks of growth is when they really plump up and get to their largest size before becoming ripe. Pawpaw season is usually September so these still have time. I’m glad they’re still on the tree. It seems so unusual to see these fruits on a tree but these trees are native to North America and have been here a long time. I’m trying to figure out if I’m going to wrap them in netting or just leave them and see what happens. I haven’t seen much of anything investigate them. Besides bugs that are crawling on the tree they’ve just been hanging out in the tree lol. Love my Pawpaw trees. #asiminatriloba #pawpawfruitcluster #annonaceae #nativefruittree #indigenousfruittree #pawpawtree #pawpawtreefruits #fruittrees #fruittreesinmybackyard #rarefruittrees #pawpawsfruittree
Pawpaw tree (Asimina triloba) fruit cluster in all its glory. Getting more plump! I planted this tree in 2016 and it flowered in the Fall of 2018 and then again in Spring 2019. The tree was trying to hold two clusters of fruit but I broke the other one off so that it wouldn’t be stressed out. This is a seedling tree purchased from Amazon, sold by Hirt’s Gardens. That’s about as much as I know about this tree so I did graft two branches with good varieties. One branch has NC-1 and the other has Sunflower. This fruit cluster is on the seedling portion of the tree because I wanted to see if the seedling tree would produce good tasting fruit. Even if this tree didn’t produce good fruit it has large beautiful leaves and strong growth for shade later on. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for tasty fruit. I also have several other grafted trees so I will get ‘good’ fruit eventually but these seedling trees were an experiment. #asiminatriloba #asiminatrilobapawpaw #pawpawtree #pawpawtrees #pawpawfruitcluster #pawpawfruit #fruittrees #backyardfruittrees #rarefruittrees #annonaceae #fruittree #fruittreesinmybackyard #gardening #perennialgarden #treesofinstagram
Here are a few new seedlings I have started growing. The first is Kent mago seedling and the second is a coffee seedling. I am hoping to use the mango seedling as a grafting stock for my Pickering mango if it ever starts growing. The coffee seedling is more of a novelty. #coffeetree #coffeeseed #coffeeseedling #mango #mangoseed #mangoseedling #rarefruittrees #fruittree #seedling
A lot of people walk right by our tropical fruit tree area. Near the entrance of the nursery. You will be amazed of what you will find. Fruit trees that will grow in San Diego that are from around the world. We have just added Tumeric, Cardamon and pineapples. #rarefruittrees #herbs #organicgardening #sandiego #fruittrees
ever grown paw-paws?! paw-paws are a woodland understory perennial fruit tree native to the southeast atlantic region of the US. the fruit is supposed to be delicious, reminiscent of its tropical cousin, the sweetsop... anyway, we've been _trying_ to grow them for a client in his part-shade palo alto backyard for the last couple years, without much to show for it. this year though, we have flowers! and where there's flowers, there _should_ be fruit coming soon!! it might require some hand-pollination, but we're up for that, and pretty excited about it all! #growfood #rarefruittrees #ediblelandscaping
Peanut Butter fruit is my chocolate! It tastes like peanut butter and jam, not chocolate, but its a scrumptious creamy treat that I get to savour every few days. They're ripe when they turn fire engine red (photo on right). This is one of my most highly recommended trees if you can find one. Very pretty too. Not to be confused with Peanuts, Peanut tree or Peanut Butter tree. This one is Peanut butter FRUIT tree. The botanical name is Bunchosia Argentea.
