Have you heard the saying that you can’t pour from an empty cup? I get it, if we are empty, we cant be a blessing to others. But I also think it can be interpreted to mean that we can’t help others until we are filled up. What does that even mean? Until we have a certain amount of money, or our fill of self-care? And that would mean we have to think of ourselves first. That’s not Jesus. “..and one who waters will himself he watered”(Proverbs 11:25) .
.
So, let me get this straight, when I focus on others and what I can do for them, THEN all my needs are met, THEN I am filled up! It doesn’t make sense to us, but God’s ways are so amazing that when we pour from our seemingly empty cup, it actually becomes a cup that runneth over! .
.
It leaves me thinking...when I’m upset and just down with no energy from taking care of everyone else, am I really worn out, or am I really focusing on myself and my wants instead of focusing on the joy in serving others and laying my life down.♀️ I’m not talking true rest here, I’m talking to my “I just want some alone time and more money in the bank” self that comes out after emptying the account on groceries for 12 and spending all day with the wildest four year old I have ever met! .
.
What are your thoughts on this? I’d love to hear them! (also, swipe to see my Bible reading buddy who was determined to spill my coffee if I didn’t stop taking this picture and nurse him!) .

~Scripture~
“Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, "It is a ghost!" and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid." And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."”~Matthew 14:22-33
