The Malabar Gliding Frog or the Malabar Gliding Frog is a Rhacophorid arboreal species found in the Western Ghats of India. It is known to glide a distance of 9-12 m, which is 115 times its own length. These frogs are known to build a foam nest above small water pools, into which the tadpoles drop after hatching. I missed last weeks #frogfriday so here’s a plump (possibly gravid?) Harlequin Flying Frog (Rhacophorus pardalis). Found plenty of these guys in the lowland rainforest of Sarawak, Borneo. Small Tree Frog(Rhacophorus lateralis) is an endangered rhacophorid tree frog endemic to the Western Ghats in South India.It has several common names: small tree frog, Boulenger's tree frog, small gliding frog, and winged gliding frog. After its original description in 1883 by George Albert Boulenger, the frog was rediscovered in Coorg in 2000 and has since been found in many parts of the Western Ghats around southern Karnataka and northern Kerala. Along with R. malabaricus, it is one of the few anuran amphibians in India that constructs its nest above the ground using leaves. It’s already been almost a month and it’s time to close the Agumbe series with a last photograph of this cute Malabar Gliding Frog ( Rhacophorus Malabaricus ) . . . These frogs are pretty much active during the monsoon in the Western Ghats. They have this reddish webbing feet, which enable to glide easily from one place to another. I took only one image of this species as the water droplet dripping on the nose was quite intriguing. . . . It’s a been pleasure visiting Kalinga Centre for Rainforest Ecology, along with knowledgeable talented chaps @akshay_for_the_wild and @d_ev_an_g. Thanks to Prashanth, manager of KCRE, who shared a lot of information about the place and species around the place. And a special thanks to Saumitra for leading the trails and showing us these beautiful creatures. The Rainforest experience was truly magical. Straight from @tornsweater—one of our incredible volunteers—a sleepy little harlequin tree frog (Rhacophorus pardalis).
