In honor of National Puzzle Day today, January 29, 2019, and the outpouring of support on my last IG post about the benefits of a classroom puzzle, I created this sign to put at your Puzzle Table FOR YOU, your students and your classroom visitors. I also was and wasn’t surprised to read one teacher’s comment that she wasn’t sure what her administrator would say if they walked in and saw students working on a puzzle. While this mentality is unfortunate and typical of many teachers, it is avoidable with a sign this like one. We level books, not readers. When reporting to parents, be aware of the words you use. We teach readers, not reading. And speaking from personal experience with my own daughter, children are not defined by the level they are reading, a child is defined by whole-r and grander things than reading levels.
