I recently got a 1985 CJ7 to replace my 86 daily CJ7 after the wreck that bent the frame and totaled it. The new 85 came with an AMC 150 4 Cylinder, and a T4 4 speed transmission, but that had to go. I’ve wondered how the 304 V8 would perform backed by a T5 for a while, so, I got a 304 V8 out of a 78 CJ7 and a T5 from an 86, and slapped the new power train in the almost rust free 85. I know the T5 is not the most powerful transmission, but with a stock 304 and graceful driving, it seems to be holding up well. I also installed side pipes straight off of the stock manifolds and removed those chrome side rails. If anyone needs an AMC 150 or a T4 transmission or some chrome side rails, they are now for sale. Pricing to be discussed over direct message only. The 150 has a new carb, fuel pump, and ran very very well. Hydraulic clutch setup and it comes with the bellhousing. The T4 had no problems at all, worked great, I just like an overdrive.
