2000 FOLLOWERS ❤️. Thank you to everyone that has joined the journey this far and may it continue to grow.! This image of the male Lion obsessing over a fresh patty of Buffalo dung was taken two nights back, and needed NO editing whatsoever! Why they roll around in, and eat Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino dung remains a bit of a mystery ‍♂️. Some say it’s to mask their scent while hunting..... I don’t really buy that theory. Others say it’s scent display to possibly indicate to other Lions that these bigger animals are in the area and that there may be a possible hunt on the cards. What ever the reason, it remains interesting and this particular time it gave me a fantastic photo opportunity.

So you’ve all seen my attempts at the fine art edits? If not go and have a look at my account, there’s a few there. Here I’ve mixed in a bit of colour. Something new I’m working on. These are the two newest cubs that last time hadn’t joined the pride yet. Well the update is, now they have and they seem feisty, especially the lead cub in this photo. It was growling all the way while suckling on mom. I have no doubt it’s going to become a serious contender in the pride one day! Panning Tiger. Something new going into the weekend. I was instructing a group of folks on taking animals portraits at the local zoo and the opportunity came up to demonstrate panning technique. Given the scenario of being in a zoo, don’t think it came out half bad, what are your thoughts? Due to the low density of prey in their native habitat, the amount of the Malayan tigers is also small. Interestingly, the areas where these and other large predators have disappeared hold a high presence of wild boars, which can become a pest. . Photo Tip: “Panning” refers to a technique where you follow a subject with the camera while keeping it in the same position in the viewfinder as it moves along a plane of motion. Typically you want a relatively slow shutter speed but that really depends on how fast your subject is moving. The slower your subject is moving then the slower your shutter speed has to be. . One of the best looking male Lions I’ve had the pleasure to photograph. Don’t be fooled by his good looks though. He’s as mean as they come and certainly isn’t scared to put a beating on any other Lion that crosses his path.

Zebra factoid: Those black and white stripes…camouflage from lions, leopards, and other predators? Not so fast, scientific studies hove now discovered they may be nature’s bug repellent! Apparently flies are confused by the b&w pattern. Who knew? . Photo Tip: Equipment investment. People often ask me which camera they should purchase. In my honest opinion and in layman’s terms, I would invest more into the lens choice than the camera. Lenses are the key to sharp images and a good lens is everything! How do you know if it’s a good lens? Price and weight is a start! In general, a less expensive lens will be very light in weight compared to a good quality lens. Prime or zoom lens? Generally prime lenses are typically sharper than zoom lenses due to the amount of moving parts. The glass inside is very precise, thus resulting in sharper images. In zoom lenses, a key factor is the aperture opening, try to stick with a constant large aperture such as a f/2.8 (or larger) and stay away from the variable apertures, such as 4.5-5.6. With variable apertures, your aperture will change as you increase the focal distance of your lens. In the end you will find that you will upgrade your cameras long before you upgrade your lenses, provide you purchased quality lenses to begin with.
