The Sanford & Benedict vineyard is extremely famous as it contains the oldest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay plantings in the region. This own rooted Chardonnay was planted in 1971. It is a north-facing site with silex and clay-loam top soils with threads of limestone stratifying the sub soil. Native yeast fermentation. 10 months is 500 L barrels with 20% being new. An additional 6 months in tank· · Medium lemon color· · Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of ginger beer, preserved lemon, lemon curd, yellow apple, oak, saltine cracker, acacia, and wet rock · The wine is dry, medium+ vibrant acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. Delicate and textured at the same time with layers of flavor. A medium+ length finish of ripe apple, lemon, and spice· · One of the most highly regarded vineyards in California for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
