•
If you’re looking for a wee adventure in northern Scotland, why not head to one of the country’s most visited castles
•
With such a beautiful setting, you can certainly see why Urquhart Castle is a real favourite!
•
#DYK you can discover more than 1,000 years of stirring history here?
•
The castle has seen some of the most dramatic chapters in our nation’s history!
•
It’s thought that St Columba may have visited around AD 580.
•
Adomnan, his biographer, tells of the saint’s encounter with a monster in the loch…
•
Have you visited Urquhart Castle before (and have you spotted the monster?!)? Let us know in the comments below!

There’s no better way to start the week than with a good ol’ dose of #MondayMotivation!
•
We want to know what #adventures you’ve got lined up…
•
If you’ve been following us for some time now, you’ll know we’ve always got a great tip for fantastic places to visit – and today is no different!
•
This is the spectacular Dryburgh Abbey, which was the home of an order of Premonstratensian canons...
•
They followed a monastic way of life, but often went out into the local community to minister as well.
•
Owing to the light colours they wore, they were known as the ‘white canons’!
•
Dryburgh has a beautifully preserved cloister, and it’s possible to see the many rooms used by the community.
•
One of these – the warming room – was one of the few places in the abbey where a fire was permitted in winter, so chilly canons could gather there to keep warm!
•
Conversation was discouraged however, in case this led to gossip!
•
Have you been to Dryburgh Abbey? Let us know in the comments below!

Talk about dramatic! Isn’t the Scottish landscape (and the historic sites we care for) just breathtaking!?
•
#DYK that this stupendous structure is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland? Do you recognise it at this unfamiliar angle?
•
What you are admiring today is the incredible 15th century Kilchurn Castle!
•
The castle had been used for many different reasons over the centuries. Not only had it been a comfortable residence to the Campbells of Glenorchy for 150 years, it was later converted into a garrison stronghold. •
[Psssstttt - You can read more about its rich history on our website. Click the link in bio and type in the castle’s name in the search box]
•
We would love to hear your memories of visiting this incredible historic site. Please share them in the comments below!
•
