Wait for it... I'm so proud of Ellie, 1000x over, because we've never attempted a treat hold before She surprised me, per usual. CBD. Do you use it? I use it for both pups and recently have been testing its impact on myself! Over the past few years I've tried many, many different brands. Mostly I test to see if one brand makes more of a difference in Ellie's behavior than another. Through trial and error I've learned: 1. Dosage matters. Not only how much but how often and how close to a mealtime. 2. Ingredients matter. CBD is mixed with an oil base. Coconut oil is what I see most commonly used but I personally prefer salmon oil base. 3. Continuous usage matters. I've read studies that both support and refute CBD needing to be used on a continuous basis for any level of effect. In my experience with Ellie, I see more positive improvement if we consistently give her dosages rather than intermittently. Why do I use CBD? Gosh, this stems back so long ago now. I was trying different supplements years ago to see how Ellie's reactivity (or behaviors associated with) would change, if at all. For a while I used Zylkene before deciding the cost didn't outweigh the fading benefit. Then I tried L-Theanine and continued using it for quite some time. It wasn't until moving to Seattle that I came across CBD. I spent a few months talking to people and researching its uses with pets. Long story short, I started supplementing Ellie over three years ago and have seen significant improvement in her ability to navigate stressful situations. Her reactivity has not disappeared by any means but her ability to rebound from an outburst has shortened astronomically. She also seems happier and more content on a daily basis without her energy level being negatively impacted.
