SENSORY GYM at home. My boys were super excited to play with each other this afternoon. However they began to get overstimulated so I tried to calm their nervous system with heavy work activities like play wrestling and finished off with respiration exercises using whistles and blow toys to slow down their breathing and heart rate. This sensory gym provided them with proprioceptive input with the movements like running, crawling, jumping, rolling, crashing and play wrestling. They also received vestibular input as their head position and posture changed throughout the movements. Auditory input was provided by the radio playing in the background. I tried to select slower music as I saw they were getting over excited and stimulated. Visual input was provided by the variety of colours in the sensory gym. Stimulating multiple senses at the same time is great for developing sensory integration and it helps them to regulate their nervous system. THE SHINE SHED an awesome place to take the kids to get active and have loads of fun. Its like a massive sensory gym beneficial for all kids special needs or not. This place promotes movement in a very fun way. The equipment is great for developing balance, coordination, gross motor skills, core strengthening, aerobic fitness, upper and lower body strengthening. Its a great place to burn off excess energy while developing fitness and skills. There also have a quite cool room to rest and relax before playing again. They have a zip line with a specialised supportive seat with a harness to allow people with special needs to enjoy the fun too. The place has a limit of 25 people so its a great place to avoid large crowds. Kids don't have to wear socks, you can bring your own food and the centre has clean high quality equipment. Highly recommend this place for kids. Its located 5 Mount Erin Rd Campbelltown.
