Шахи Зинда - средневековой ансамбль мавзолеев самаркандской знати. Комплекс состоит из одиннадцати мавзолеев, последовательно пристраивавшиеся друг к другу в течение XIV—XV веков. Местные называют этот некрополь «улицей-кладбищем». А от себя я скажу, что это одна из самых красивых улиц, что я видела. Здесь хочется сфотографировать каждую искусно выложенную мозаику, каждую плиточку, каждый потолок и каждую дверь)

Samarkand, . The Shah-i-Zinda consists of mausoleums and ritual buildings of mostly IX-XIV centuries. The name Shah-i-Zinda means “The living king" and is related to the legend that the cousin of the prophet Muhammad was buried there when he came to Samarkand to preach Islam. According to legends he was beheaded for his faith. A Berlino qualche giorno fa ho conosciuto due ragazzi uzbechi PhD in Storia, persone con cui è stato un enorme piacere parlare - mi hanno confermato la mia visione "doppia" del loro paese, un paese a due volti, uno ricco e splendente, pulito, copiosamente innaffiato e fiorito, mentre l'altro sempre più povero, affaticato da un sistema dittatoriale soffocante. Dittatura: per la prima volta ho sentito pronunciare questa parola sulle labbra di un uzbeco. Ho avuto un piccolo brivido e ho pensato, tra me e me, "finalmente". Laggiù le persone diventano nervose parlando dei loro leader, sospettose. Ne parlano bene con forzatura, o dicono di "rispettarli" - mai sentita parola più asettica. Ma forse è proprio questa "doppiezza" che mi rapisce del paese, questo suo essere incatalogabile e inafferrabile. Stupefacente e spoglio insieme, come la necropoli di Shah-i-Zinda, che significa "il Re Vivente". Che è un tripudio di ceramica smaltata e intagliata con la precisione delle mani di un bambino, stupefacente all'esterno, ma dietro i portali rimane solo una stanza spoglia e fredda, un drappo gelido sulle tombe di pietra. Ci tengo sempre con tutto il cuore che possiate capire tutto il risvolto sociale, politico e storico che sta dietro questi splendidi portali decorati. Non sono un paradiso delle mille una notte, né un sogno sulla via della seta: sono storia affascinante, eccessivamente restaurata, a volte; sono il periodo storico, uno dei molti, che una classe politica ha deciso di salvare dal dimenticatoio, incensare e ascrivere come marchio indelebile di identità culturale (a tratti vacillante) per un popolo che non ce l'aveva.
