This calming forward fold is a great stretch to the hips, hamstrings, and calves. It also strengthens the thighs and knees, and massages the internal organs . If you have a back injury keep the knees bent or perform this using your hands pressing into a wall for support.
✨✨
1. Begin standing Tadasana, with your hands on your hips.
2. Soften your knees and begin to slowly fold forward from your hips. Shift your hips back slightly to counterbalance your weight as you lean forward. The fold should come from your hip joint and not from rounding out your lower back.
3. Keep your knees soft & your feet parallel as your rest your hands on the ground or grab onto your elbows. Think of lengthening the spine here to increase the space between your pubis and your chest bone.
4. If you are comfortable here, begin to straighten your knees more while grounding into the heels and pushing your sit bones up toward the ceiling.
5. Reach the crown of your head toward the floor. Hold for ten to twenty breaths.
6. To exit, engage your core muscles, place your hands on your hips, soften your knees,
keep your spine long, and reach your chest forward as you inhale and come up.
