Sunsets remind me of my dad. They remind me to reflect on the beauty of the day, the struggle that was endured, and the successes and shortcomings that will continue to shape us. Stumbled across something I never saw before in my father’s possession. As I was opening it and wondering what it was I saw a note in the case. My father’s handwriting. Tears. It wasn’t what it said, rather the thought behind the note. My father knew one of us would come across this antique so he left a note of explanation. When he knew he had less than more time he began to label things for us so we would know what to do. Sometimes I just feel like I don’t know what to do anymore. Sometimes I just cry. Sometimes I miss him greatly. I think what I love most is the thought and protection that went into these actions that are pure reflections of love. I can relate to these behind-the-scenes moments. Sometimes life is purely about pacing oneself. We can have great intentions and push ourselves to the limits of exhaustion. If we fail to take the time to recharge, we run out of steam and are no good to anyone. I often push myself in this fashion. If we try to sprint a marathon we are unrealistic and will fail. If we find our pace and stay focused on what is immediately facing us, we can handle each step with higher likelihood of success. I feel like I’m progressing at a turtle’s pace when in reality I barely stop to breathe some days. Taking time to regroup has helped me see the need to just slow things down and see everything clearer. It’s like trying to run a straight line after spinning - kind of pointless and dangerous. Yet, we tend to do this every day and justify our actions. My goal is to continue to succeed in being present and productive. We create the chaos that exists in the mind.
