“Autism Or No Autism, Understanding Any Other Human Leads To Acceptance And Love.” Meg Raby @bedtime.stories.forevermore first had the idea to write a book about autism when she was working at the Minnesota Autism Center. As she began forming little friendships with the kids at the center she wanted to teach others that the stereotype of autistic individuals as being antisocial wasn’t necessarily true. Instead, Meg realized “it’s about entering their world and being patient and getting to know them." Meg recently published her first picture book, My Brother Otto. This colorful and engaging story about a pair of crow siblings is a kid-friendly autism awareness book . . . with a twist. Meg chose to make the characters animals instead of people because she wanted it to be a “storybook” and not “a manual of autism behaviors.” It’s told through Piper’s perspective because “I think that sibling relationships can be incredibly special but also comes with some challenges,” she says. For example, some of Otto’s behaviors make Piper feel a little embarrassed or scared, but she still loves her brother and advocates for him. Let's keep more items out of the landfills!! End-of-year School Supply Collection! . Buckets will be available for pickup at Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center in May. We recommend you pick up your buckets 2 weeks before school ends. SWIPE LEFT to see bucket setup! . To prepare, talk to the principal, secretary, art teacher, and/or the PTA to share information about the collection and confirm details and permission. Schools may either keep all collected items for reuse in the fall or take them to Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center to share with other teachers and schools. Simple steps for a successful materials collection drive: . Communicate with the school secretary, principal, or teacher either in person or via email with the included information. Assure them that the process is easy and will save hundreds of pounds of usable materials from ending up in the landfill. . Come to Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center to pick up your collection buckets May 13-18. You will be given 5 buckets & labels (pens & pencils, markers, scissors, crayons, glue & miscellany). . Install the buckets and the information posters ON OR BEFORE May 28th (that is, at least a week before school ends!). We have found that putting the buckets at the front of the school is best. . Collect the buckets from the school on the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL and deliver them to Clever Octopus Creative Reuse Center or encourage your school to make these available to students next year. .
