I remember the days when Saturday would roll around and I would be sooo excited to hang with my boyfriend and friends and do cool and fun things. Now-a-days, I get legit excited to go to Costco on Saturdays. Um, samples please! But for real. This was such a fun shoot. @nathan_tastad4 wanted to surprise his gf with a holiday photo session together as an xmas gift. How romantic, right? The guy is planning memorable experiences like this and he’s only in high school! @aviry_stratton, you are a lucky girl.

Y’all. I got asked a question during a client consult this week by a couple that truly stumped me. ready for this? they asked me what feeling I wanted to capture every time I shoot a wedding. they said he’d seen a bunch of “adventure” photographers and “candid” photographers in the PNW and they were all blending together. to their point, I know I’m guilty of saying and repeating those words frequently. but I understood what they was getting at: what is unique about what I bring to the table and what is it about weddings that speak to me? one of my biggest insecurities is feeling like I’m only “good” because I take photos in gorgeous places . the truth is, while I am so proud of my epic outdoor landscape photos, it doesn’t mean I ONLY love outdoor weddings. I’ve been thinking about this all week and what bothers me about being in that category is that I don’t consider an outdoor wedding cooler or better than an indoor one. you’re not more or less cool or appealing as a client to me because you’re getting married in a church or a lodge. sooooo why do I love what I do? this year I can truly say I understand that more than ever. I understand that every client is not a right fit and my competition isn’t competition at all. there’s a right photographer for everyone. and the part about weddings that I love most is the CELEBRATION of the event. life is HARD. loss sucks. the political climate is AWFUL & sometimes it feels like the world is crumbling. but every time I show up to a wedding, I understand that it’s important to celebrate the good & amazing moments while we have the chance. it’s not being naive to the world’s ugly or bad, it’s choosing to be CELEBRATE your commitment to who you love. CELEBRATING that all the people you love support you. that’s the feeling I love more than anything. life is pretty precious and so fleeting. we all deserve to celebrate our love however feels right to us: whether that’s in a barn, in a church, in the middle of a forest or on top of a mountain. my goal when I shoot every wedding is to make every couple feel cherished and celebrated. that’s my “word”. I’m hanging onto it. ;)

For whatever reason I used to believe I started my photography career too late in life...how could I ever measure up to the newer, younger, fresher photographers out there? Was I still considered creative enough as a mom of young girls…driving my mom-mobile, doing all the mom and wifey things? Was I still cool enough? I also used to think it was too late to even think I could be an athlete. I walked into Crossfit almost 4 years ago wondering if I would ever be able do do any of the things I was watching the people do? Kipping pull ups? Rope climbs? Hand stand push ups? Heavy dead lifts? Double unders? Wasn’t it too late for me? ⠀ ⠀ I looked at fashion and loved some of new styles emerging and thought, am I too old to have pink hair? Can I wear rompers because I really freakin love those things! ⠀ ⠀ I looked at my life and thought because of where I was, it was just too late for me to really be any good at stuff anymore, because face it, I’m a middle-aged mom and my prime time has come and gone right? ⠀ ⠀ WRONG. Whatever in the heck started this thought process in my brain was just one big fat lie from the pit of he!! ⠀ ⠀ These middle years are growing on me, I’ve realized that I AM capable of anything I want to do. It is NOT too late! And I care less and less about peoples' opinions of me. Wow it feels good! To come to the realization that as long as I wake up every morning and have breath in my lungs and an able body…I will consider it a privilege to be alive and NOT waste it. ⠀ ⠀ Life is a gift!! Be inspired by these words and don’t just coast on autopilot. Live with intention whatever that looks like for you. Don’t miss it!
