*LIVING IN COLOMBIA* If you saw my last post, then you already heard the news... I’m living in Colombia!!! On June 1st, I grabbed my giant ass suitcase and hopped on a plane bound for Cartagena—a city with a unique history, a beautifully preserved historical city center, great beaches, and so much more. Besides absolutely loving this city when I visited last November, I was also in need of a change, so this place seemed like the perfect city to retreat to. After nearly a month in town, here’s a brief rundown of what I’m feeling. WHAT I LOVE:
1. I can walk from my apartment to the beach in five minutes.
2. The city center (seen here) really is gorgeous with its colorful colonial style buildings and perfectly preserved fortified walls surrounding it.
3. The bakery down the street from me smells like heaven and their bread is even better
4. Colombian soccer jerseys are super cute and the national team is doing well so far in the Copa America tournament!
5. Living here is the first time in my life that being black doesn’t make me a minority, and there’s something really liberating about that.
WHAT I DON’T LOVE:
1. I definitely prefer the heat over the cold, but it is soooo hot here, and I sweat easily, so it’s not a very pretty combo sometimes.
2. The mosquitoes are out to get me this summer and my legs look I’m recovering from chicken pox.
3. The streets in my neighborhood don’t have signs, so it’s been tough figuring out how to navigate the area. The people here just know the street names by heart, but I’m still learning.
4. My family and friends aren’t here, but they better come visit! For now, my plan is to stay in Cartagena until the end of July, and then it’s off to Europe for two months! I’ll be back here after my European escapades, though, and as I spend more time in Colombia, I’m sure I’ll find more things I love and other things not so much, but that’s the nature of every place you go. Nothing is perfect. What do you love/hate about the town or city where you live?!

The Maya people were super dope architects. They built some of the most dopest temples and pyramids of the times. When it comes to pyramids, the Maya civilization possibly even outsmarted Egyptians.
How, you say? I don’t know I just heard my guide say it. Although it would be interesting to know more. I must admit my knowledge of Maya only consists of Maya Angelou.
However, more Maya pyramids are still being discovered till this day For a while I thought pyramids were only found in Egypt. Boy, was I wrong.
Question , have you ever been to a country where there are pyramids (and no Vegas and the Louve doesn’t count). If so, please share with me because I would love to check it out some day. #mayacivilization #belize # #xunatunich

Is it too soon for a “take me back”? Egypt was THE highlight of my last trip through The Middle East/Africa. I’ve been home less than a week and I’m already ready to head back because there’s so much more to see! So many people have reached out asking me about the many misconceptions they’ve heard about Egypt and I want to clear the air based of my experience
1. I felt 100% safe in Egypt I know there are warnings against traveling to Egypt but in my opinion, you need to be cautious wherever you go as anything can happen at any time—even if you’re in the US. I literally had to go through a metal detector everywhere I went in Egypt including hotels, museums, and restaurants. They do their best to make sure everyone is safe and secure.
2. The Egyptian people were very friendly. Yes, they could be pushy at times in order to get you to pay for a good or service but hey, you can’t knock the hustle. Just simply say “no thank you” and keep it pushing✌ I had a couple taxi drivers/tour guides on speed dial who were very accommodating.
3. Before I went to Egypt, people told me it wasn’t kept clean. Egypt was very well kept. All the public restrooms, hotels, airports, restaurants, museums, etc were very clean and they smelled good too In fact, there was usually someone present making sure things were in great condition.
Anymore questions? Feel free to comment below or shoot me a DM!❤️
