@koa.photography joined me in the studio for an afternoon and captured my space so perfectly! Full disclosure, I definitely don’t dress up for work everyday, BUT do I wear this smile when I get to my little studio desk? You better believe it! You may know me as Jess, owner and illustrator of Watercolour Heart but for fun here’s a few more things about me!
.
I love food! (and feeding people). My love often comes in the form of a hot meal and cooking up a storm in the kitchen with red wine is one of my favourite pastimes.
.
I freaking love the game 30 seconds - but seriously who doesn’t?
.
My favourite book has to be Big Magic by @elizabethgilbert.
.
I grew up on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal in a tiny town called Port Edward on a macadamia nut farm. Nate and I are having our wedding on the farm in August. .
In 36 short days I become Mrs Meyer! Wife to my best friend and partner of over 5 years @nate_reyem engineer, surfer and all round probably the most helpful guy you’ll meet.
.
I started painting when I was 6 years old, my grandmother was an artist and taught me acrylic and oil and only when I was 16 did I learn to paint with watercolour - I’ve been in love with it ever since. .
I am forever inspired by women in general, I went to an all girls boarding school and truly appreciate the value of sisterhood. I’m also endlessly inspired by creative entrepreneurs and small businesses - their grit and their passion.
.
My biggest goal is to encourage and inspire others to make every moment a celebration of life and creativity - in business and in their everyday! My secondary goal in life is to maybe become like a Julia Child come watercolour artist and as I’m typing this I’m like….wait…a watercolour illustrated cookbook?! Can’t turn that biz brain off and I’m messier, happier and all the more excited to share this journey with you for it!
.
Know that you know a little more about me, I’d seriously love to know more about you? How did you land up following Watercolour Heart or even if you’re a 30 seconds badass too! I'll meet you below in the comments!

The Journey to @imara.retreat ❤️ is COMPLETE. And I have ARRIVED with an aim to share, love and express as I continue to understand myself deeply. THE GOAL for me is simple: to SHIFT my perspective and to SEE the POTENTIAL that THRIVES BEYOND my BELIEFS. The UNDERSTANDING of SUPREME LOVE & RESPECT ✊ for other’s culture and challenges always changes my self-perceived attachments. I AM ready to GROW . @the.coloredgirl THANK YOU .
